Kevin Kleinman

Kevin has been navigating markets since 2008 and advising clients since 2017. He handles day-to-day client work, writes the firm’s market commentary and monthly newsletter, and leads the planning around equity compensation — RSUs, options, employee stock purchase plans, and positions in an employer’s stock that have quietly grown into most of someone’s net worth.

His interest started early. At eleven he caught a segment on the local news about the stock market. His mom explained what a stock was and set up a pretend investment account for him at AOL.com, and he followed his holdings the way other kids followed a team.

Growing up he saved deliberately, with the goal of investing for himself once he turned eighteen. In June 2008, armed with $10,000 he had earned refereeing basketball throughout his teenage years, he dove head first into the stock market. It was an immediate and expensive lesson in the fact that nobody times the market.

Rather than walk away from it, he studied it. Beginning in 2012 he recorded his own computer screen a few days a week as he navigated the market with his own money. Like a coach studying game film, he wanted to see everything in close detail and analyze his own real-time decisions and thought process.

That footage became a subscription site, where members could follow his thinking on the market and on investment strategy week to week. Humbled by requests from subscribers to manage money on their behalf, he pursued a career as a financial advisor instead. He joined Blue Haven Capital in 2017.

Kevin coaches youth basketball and lives in Geneva, Illinois with his wife and two young children. He is partial to a good pizza and to trips to Northern Michigan.
